The Great Recycling Adventure Quiz

Hey kids! Are you 14 years old or younger? If so, get ready for the great recycling adventure quiz! If you want to prepare, there are some great resources at the back of the quiz. I’ll also list them below.

Recycling matters because it helps protect the planet we all depend on — and it’s something everyone your age can do that actually makes a difference. After you learn the facts, share them with your family members!

Did you know that recycling:

Saves natural resources.

Everything we use comes from somewhere. Paper comes from trees, metal comes from rocks underground, and plastic comes from fossil fuels. When we recycle, we can reuse those materials instead of digging up or cutting down more. It’s like giving old stuff a second life.

Cuts down on trash.

Landfills aren’t bottomless. The more we throw away, the faster they fill up. Some trash—especially plastic—sticks around for hundreds of years. Recycling keeps tons of this waste out of landfills so our communities stay cleaner.

Reduces pollution

Making new products from raw materials usually creates more pollution and uses more energy than recycling old ones. When we recycle, factories use less electricity, burn fewer fossil fuels, and release fewer greenhouse gases.

Helps fight climate change.

Using less energy means releasing less carbon pollution. Recycling aluminum cans, for example, saves 95% of the energy it takes to make new ones. That’s a huge win for the climate.

Protects wildlife and the ocean

Trash, especially plastic, often ends up in rivers and the ocean where it harms people and animals. Recycling keeps these materials in the system and out of nature, helping protect marine life and the ecosystems they depend on.

Building good habits for a greener future

Recycling teaches us to think about the impact of what we use and throw away. It encourages people to make smarter choices—like reducing waste in the first place or choosing reusable items.
