To My Kids and Grandkids, I Will Never Stop Fighting

Some of you may know that I’ve been fighting for offshore wind in California. Right now, it feels like those of us who care about keeping our planet livable are losing ground. Recently, the fossil fuel industry won again. They have managed to stall or shut down offshore wind projects all over the world, helped by the current political administration — leaving China as the only major country still moving forward at full speed.

They keep finding new ways to block progress. They pour money into ads, lawsuits, and even local groups pretending to be “environmental organizations” that spread fear and false information. They’ll use anything—misleading photos, rumors, and scare tactics—to slow down clean energy and keep the old polluting system alive. And every time they win another battle, it chips away at the safe future I want for my kids and grandkids.

I’m 71, and I’ll be honest: I’m tired. This fight is long, and some days it feels heavier than others.

But here’s the truth: I’m not giving up. Not now, not ever.

I fight because I love them. I fight because I want them to grow up with healthy oceans, clean air, and a climate that isn’t spinning out of control. I fight because they deserve a future that’s brighter, safer, and fairer than the one the fossil fuel industry is trying to lock us in.

They may have the money. They may have the power. But I have something stronger—hope, determination, and a fierce love for the generations who will inherit the choices we make today.

And as long as I’m here, I’ll keep speaking up. I’ll keep pushing back. I’ll keep fighting for the future they deserve—because giving up has never been an option, and it never will be.
